Everything you need to know about the Turkish sci-fi series

Hot Skull is a new Turkish sci-fi series about a mysterious new epidemic that spreads via language and speech. Former linguist Murat Siyavus is the only person unaffected by the disease. Hunted by the Anti-Epidemic institution, Murat must do whatever it takes to get to a safe zone.

Here is the official synopsis, courtesy of Netflix:

"Based on the novel HOT SKULL by Afşin Kum, set in a world shaken by an epidemic of madness that spreads through language and speech, the reclusive former linguist Murat Siyavus, having taken refuge at his mother’s home, is the only person mysteriously unaffected by this disease. Hunted by the ruthless Anti-Epidemic Institution, Murat is forced to leave the safe zone and flee within the flames and ruins of the streets of Istanbul, where he searches for the secret of his “hot skull” – a lasting mark of the disease."

Hot Skull season 1 features eight episodes in total. Each one is approximately an hour long, with at least one episode running for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Hot Skull is a Turkish series, so the language is Turkish, but you can change the audio to the English dub if you don’t want to use subtitles.

Hot Skull is rated TV-MA for some strong language, smoking, substances, and violence.

Turkish actor Osman Sonant leads the cast as former linguist Murat Siyavus. You might recognize Sonant from the Netflix series Rise of Empires: Ottoman, where he played Loukas Notaras.

So far, there is no word on Hot Skull season 2. Netflix usually takes a few months to decide on renewals and cancellations, so we might not know this show’s fate until 2023.
