Taylor Swift’s music brings joy to millions of Swifties across the globe, however, she’s admitted that one of her songs, Marjorie, ‘still rips her apart’ every time she hears it.

The 34-year-old has been releasing music ever since 2006, with her debut single, Tim McGraw. Her first album was released later that year, and ever since, Taylor Swift mania has taken over the globe. She’s had fans feeling countless emotions with hundreds of her hits, but there’s one special song from her ninth studio album that still cuts deep for the singer.

Taylor Swift was a ‘wreck’ while writing Marjorie

Marjorie is a song on Taylor’s ninth studio album, Evermore, written about her late grandmother Marjorie Finlay. Although the song was released in 2020, sadly she died in 2003 before Swift found fame. She explains at the time she “was on a trip to Nashville to try and make it,” handing out her CD demos to the record label.

“The experience writing that song was really surreal,” the 34-year-old says in a resurfaced interview. “I was kind of a wreck at times writing it, I would break down sometimes,” she explained.

The Bad Blood singer, who is currently dating Travis Kelce, then goes on to explain that her late grandmother is singing with her in the song, which she says ‘still rips her apart’ when she listens to it.

Taylor explains how her mom actually found a “bunch of old records” of her grandmother singing opera, which she sent to her producer Aaron. Aaron then added them to the song after the emotional line, “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were singing to me now.”

“I’ve always felt like she was seeing this,” the singer continued. “And it’s moments like that on the record that just make you feel like your whole heart is in this whole thing that you’re doing. It’s all of you that you put into these things.”

Crowd reaction to the song still makes the singer emotional

The singer performed the song at her Eras Tour, and looked visibly emotional in Sydney, as fans turned on their mobile phone torches to pay tribute to her late grandmother.

Swift could be seen teary-eyed as thousands of supportive fans lighted up the Accor stadium.

The Eras Tour is currently on a break until May when the star will be heading to Paris to kick off her European Leg. We can expect to see Travis Kelce in the crowd on many dates, as he recently revealed he was most excited to see his girlfriend perform in London, where she’ll be headlining the iconic Wembley Stadium a whopping eight times.
