Jennifer Coolidge has been hailed the ‘mother’ of the acting world, but she admitted she lied on her audition resume to bag her first big break in Seinfeld.
The movie star has been a fan-favorite for decades. Her fame skyrocketed after playing the hilarious part of Stifler’s mom in Hollywood‘s American Pie franchise. The Emmy Award winner has played various characters, from the evil stepmom in A Cinderella Story – which had a celebrity-filled cast – to the shy best friend in Legally Blonde. But before her beloved role in The White Lotus, Jennifer Coolidge caught her big break in Seinfeld. But, in order to bag the part, she actually lied through her teeth on her resume.
Jennifer Coolidge’s trick to getting her part in Seinfeld
The star admitted that she had to fill up her blank resume with lies in order to get her first jobs for TV.
And it must have worked, because Jennifer Coolidge not only booked Seinfeld, but another gig on the same day.
Jennifer Coolidge told GQ of her audition: “It was a weird day. I booked Seinfeld the same day that I booked this very short lived series called She TV, which was an all-women sketch show on ABC.”
She confessed: “I didn’t really have any jobs before that. I only had lies on my resume. I’d gone to a school called American Academy of Dramatic Arts up in Pasadena, and I’d just named all these shows and all these different theaters at the school as if they played there.
“You have to do that if you have a blank resume, until you start getting jobs. Then you can slowly erase the lies.
“I’d love to get my hands on that resume now.”
Jennifer was rushed to the emergency room on The White Lotus
The 62-year-old may have walked home with a Golden Globe for playing a needy heiress in the HBO comedy, but one day on set wasn’t that funny.
While filming the show, she faced a health scare that saw her rushed to the emergency room.
Jennifer had developed an allergic reaction to a spray tan that she had got for her role, and it went wrong.
She told Allure magazine: “For The White Lotus, I didn’t want to look like a big, white marshmallow on the beach in Hawaii, so I got a spray tan.
“I got on the plane, and I started to feel really weird. By the time I got off the flight, I had to go to the emergency room.”
It also forced the makeup team to change the products they used for her time on set, to be extra careful. The actress also admitted that as soon as they stopped filming she’d have to wash it all off and shower because she would have a “quick reaction”.
Her Emmy Award speech, for Outstanding Supporting Actress, also saw her detail another mishap. She told the crowd she had a lavender bath before the show, and it made her “swell up inside her dress”.

Coolidge managed to bring fans watching at home to tears as well as laughter with her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes this year.
From the start, they were chuckles in the room when she wanted to stop holding her gong – which she had only just won.
She talked about feeling love for the people that stood by her during the tough times in showbiz to keep her going. She admitted she had “big dreams” when she was younger and feared she’d never see them come true.
Jennifer Coolidge has come a long way since Seinfeld, and she’s not finished just yet.
