I’m sad to say that this news comes as no surprise. Heidi Klum and her bodyguard boyfriend, Martin Kristen, have broken up after about a year and a half of official dating. The timeline of the relationship is a bit wonky. Seal and Heidi had a nasty end to their marriage in early 2012. Seal went on to say that they split because Heidi was banging her bodyguard (or in Seal’s words, because she “decid[ed] to fornicate with the help“).
Who knows when Heidi and Martin actually hooked up for the first time. All I know is that when Heidi and Seal ended their marriage, Martin was painted as a knight in shining armour. He was the one who physically restrained Seal when he allegedly pushed Heidi. When Martin and Heidi went official, we immediately heard reports that she was trying to make him over as he resisted. They lasted about a year before I started to grow suspicious of a split when Heidi went solo on her favorite holiday last year. Now Heidi has made an announcement to People:

After dating for a year and a half, the supermodel and her bodyguard boyfriend Martin Kirsten separated a few weeks ago, PEOPLE confirms exclusively.
Klum, 40, started dating Kirsten, 41, a few months after she filed for divorce from Seal after several years of marriage.
“Martin was there for her during a challenging time in her life and it was something she will always be grateful for,” says a friend close to Klum.

Kirsten and Klum are also ending their professional relationship.
“They are no longer working together,” another source close to Klum confirms to PEOPLE.
“Life is about timing. He was incredibly supportive and they were there for each other, but they’re moving on now,” adds the source. “They still have a great friendship.”

“Life is about timing….” Those words tell me either that Martin was a rebound or a jumpoff or both. I bet Seal is quietly enjoying this event, but it sounds like the relationship between Heidi and Martin simply ran its course. Perhaps a shift in the balance of power — from being an employee to being the guy who still gets a paycheck but now shares a bed with his boss — well maybe that was too big a change to last forever. It’s a bummer that Martin’s losing his job, but when you bang your boss, I guess you should be prepared for some fallout. Martin’s got plenty of experience, so hopefully an opportunity will soon come his way. Maybe Kate Gosselin is hiring?
