Alexander Skarsgard recalls his The Legend of Tarzan days 2016
Swedish actor, Alexander Skarsgard, 47 has done a great number of roles. He takes great pains in order to modify himself physically for the role to fit the character he is portraying in the movie. But for the 2016 film The Legend of Tarzan, things had gone a bit more extreme. Alexander recalled those days and turned emotional with it.
The co-stars of Alexander in the film were Margot Robbie and Samuel L. Jackson. And for the role, Alexander had to diet and do rigorous exercises. All this was taxing for him. He had to have six small meals in a day. And these were without sugar, wheat, gluten, milk or milk products. Alcohol was also prohibited. Additionally, he had two rigorous workouts in a day. He had become tired of eating the bland and boring diet daily. His will to live was dying. Alexander was elated when the first time a cheat meal was offered to him.
Alexander and the cheat meal
While on the bland diet in preparation for his role in The legend of Tarzan, his trainer allowed him one cheat meal. Alexander was ecstatic. When he recently recalled those days, he got emotional. Alexander said:
“It was on a Sunday – we shot the movie in London and we were at the gym lifting weights and I guess he just saw that my will to live was fading. It had been five months of broccoli, chicken breasts and that kind of stuff… I got to eat pizza, pasta, tiramisu. I get emotional just talking about it!”
Despite all the efforts of the film team, the film did not do well as expected at the box office. The supporting cast was also good. But fans and critics were not happy with the making.
Margot Robbie on Alexander’s extreme diet
Alexander’s co-star, Margot Robbie also remembered the time when Alexander was given an apple to eat. He was excited like a child on having it. Margot recalled:
“I remember the day that he was allowed an apple, and he kissed the apple. It hit me how deprived you are if you’re that excited to see a piece of fruit.”
The film was made in a budget of USD 180 million. And it earned USD 356.7 million. Though the box office collection seems good, the profit margin was less considering that the producers had spent a lot on making the film.
The 1 hour 50 mins movie is based on the famous Tarzan stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs. It is a gritty, intense movie that thrills the viewers. The story is about John whose beloved wife, Jane is abducted by Leon Rom, the Belgian envoy. John has to go back to his previous self of Tarzan to save her.
People feel that the film flopped because it’s dialogues were not good. Also, there was no chemistry between it’s main characters. They also feel that Samuel L. Jackson did not fit the role George Washington.
